Regional MPTC Reserve/ Intermittent Law Enforcement Officer Academy

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department, Franklin County Chief's of Police Association, Northwestern District Attorney's Office and the Greenfield Community College have partnered to present a Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) sanctioned Reserve-Intermittent Law Enforcement Officer Academy with a start date of March 13th, 2012. This is the standard 242+ hour curriculum which will run until June 28th, 2012.

The Application Process
1. Fill out the standard MPTC Reserve/Intermittent Training Application and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check form in full and sign as appropriate;
2. Obtain sponsorship from a Massachusetts Chief of Police or Sheriff (you must prove to the satisfaction of the sponsoring Chief or Sheriff that you have current and valid personal health insurance);
3. Secure a bank check or money order only (no personal checks, credit/debit cards or cash can be accepted) in the amount of $500.00 made payable to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office;
4. Deliver or mail the (1) completed, signed application, (2) completed, signed CORI check form and full payment to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office to the attention of Lori Streeter located at 160 Elm Street in Greenfield, MA 01301 no later than 4:00 PM on February 28th, 2012.
Applicants accepted for attendance will be notified as soon after February 28th, 2012 as possible.

The below link is to the basic MPTC Reserve/Intermittent curriculum and associated training hours. Students must also complete 12 hours of out-of-classroom assignments as instructed.
These assignments include approximately 1 hour of orientation and familiarization with Health and Wellness issues, not less than 3 hours of take-home assignments within the Report Writing segment and 4 hours each in completing the on-line National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 curriculum as well as the Incident Command System (ICS) 100 level training. GENERAL INFORMATION
This class will be limited to not more than the first 30 viable applicants and all applications and payments must be received as detailed below no later than 4:00 PM on February 28th, 2012. Preference will be given to candidates residing in Franklin County.
Prospective students for this training must be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony or violent crime and meet any other requirements as their sponsoring/hiring agency may lawfully mandate.
The course cost is $500.00 which is to be paid in advance and in full by either bank check, money order or check from a law enforcement agency or municipality. No cash, personal checks credit cards or other forms of payment are acceptable. Checks should be made out to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Applications should be dropped off or mailed to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office located at 160 Elm Street in Greenfield, MA 01301. Make certain that the envelope is clearly marked MPTC Reserve/Intermittent Attn.: Lori Streeter for timely and proper processing.
Classes will run each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday consecutively from March 13th through June 28th, 2012. Hours for Tuesday and Thursday sessions will generally be 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Saturday sessions will generally run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The three texts required for this curriculum are included in the course fee and the Program Coordinator shall ensure that the manuals are available for the students accepted into this program by the time the associated courses are to be taught.
It is expected that each student will have 100% attendance. This program requires satisfactory completion of each and every individual training and examination segment and absences may be excused only in the sole discretion of the Program Coordinator for bona fide exigent or emergency circumstances. Any excused segment missed must be made up by the student to the satisfaction of the segment instructor and the Program Coordinator prior to graduation date. Should a student not pass any required component of this program, drop out or be removed or terminated after the start date there shall be no reimbursement for tuition costs, either full or prorated.
Uniforms and equipment listed in the document linked herein shall be considered mandatory as described therein. The listed required uniform components can generally be purchased at any police supply (i.e. Jurek Brother Police Supply in Greenfield, MA, Sentry Uniform in Chicopee, MA, Guardian Police Supply in Springfield, MA, etc.) The navy or black polo shirt may be of any brand however it shall have no logo or insignia other than the described patch to sewn to it. The Dickies khaki pants are generally available locally at The Outlet Store in Greenfield, MA or many Walmart's. The belt should be high-quality leather, black in color, 1.5" wide with a plain silver buckle. This item should be obtained from a police supply whenever possible. Shoes must be black, preferreably casual with a non-slip sole. If a sneaker-type shoe is desired, there must not be any logo's or stripes on them whatsoever. The Program Coordinator will provide the listed Academy patches to the students and their wear shall not be mandatory until they are so provided.

As part of the application, each prospective student must be (1) sponsored by a Massachusetts police or sheriff's department through its Chief of Police or Sheriff, and (2) be able to provide proof of health insurance to the sponsoring agency and the Program Coordinator for this training.
DO NOT send this application to either MPTC Headquarters or any other Academy or facility. It must be sent or delivered to Lori Streeter at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office as instructed in these directions.
SPECIAL NOTE: The standard application states that the sponsoring agency is to submit the application to the local Program Coordinator. HOWEVER, as this program requires a CORI form as well as payment at the time of submission, the candidate may submit the application, knowing that the sponsoring Chief or Sheriff will be contacted to verify their signature and willingness to sponsor the candidate.

NOTE: AT NO TIME SHALL FIREARMS BE BROUGHT ONTO THE GREENFIELD COMMUNITY COLLEGE CAMPUS OR ANY OTHER SITE WHILE STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED IN THIS TRAINING.
Any student violating this mandate will be removed from the training program immediately.
