Lieutenant William Gordon has been a police officer since 1989. He started working for the City of Greenfield in June 1993, prior to that he worked in the towns of Sunderland, Leverett and Nantucket. In the 1990's Lieutenant Gordon served several years as a D.A.R.E. officer and worked as a community police officer. He spent several summers as one of the department’s first bike officers. Lieutenant Gordon was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September 2000, as a Sergeant he was assigned mostly evening and night shifts. Lieutenant Gordon was promoted to his current rank in January 2007 and now serves as the department Patrol Supervisor. Lieutenant Gordon has been issued 9 department commendations and three life saving awards. He is a proud member and team leader of the departments Special Response team. Lieutenant Gordon has a Bachelors Degree of Science in Law Enforcement and a Master’s Degree of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Western New England College.
Sergeant Viorel Bobe currently is the watch commander on the 7-3 shift. He is a Firearms instructor and teaches Background investigation techniques to police command staff. Sergeant Bobe reviews/approves incident and arrest reports, answers patrol officers questions, assists public in the lobby of the police station, and is the firearms instructor for the police department. He is also a former member of the Special Response Team and teaches in the Citizen Police Academy. Sgt Bobe is also fluent in Spanish, Russian and Romanian languages.
Sergeant Daniel McCarthy has been a full time police officer for the Town of Greenfield for the past 22 years, He was promoted to the rank of Sgt. in 2000. He is currently assigned to the Detective Division working the evening shift. Sgt. McCarthy was the K9 handler for K9 Dakota from 1995 to 2001. Sgt. McCarthy's duties include supervision of the detective division, investigations, crime scene processing, responding to calls, maintaining the K9 unit, serving warrants and summons, traffic enforcement, community policing activities, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, and testifying in court. During the spring and summer months Sgt. McCarthy is a member of the bicycle unit, which is assigned to the downtown area and he deals with community problems in that area. Sgt. McCarthy is also a member of the department’s special response team. Sgt. McCarthy is also the police liaison to the human rights commission and the board of license commissioners.
Sergeant Todd Dodge has been a full time police officer since 1998. As a Patrolman he served as a Field Training Officer, Bicycle Patrol Officer, Detective and member of the Department's Special Response Team. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in April 2007. Sergeant Dodge is currently assigned to the evening shift as the Patrol Watch Commander. Sergeant Dodge's duties include, but are not limited to; managing and over seeing the evening shift, approving completed reports, managing outside detail assignments, responding to calls for service, serving warrants and summonses, traffic enforcement, community policing activities, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, and testifying in court. Sergeant Dodge has received training as a Drug Recognition Expert and is a trained Motorcycle Patrol Officer and a member of the Department's Honor Guard. Sergeant Dodge earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from Western New England College in 2004. Sergeant Dodge has been awarded two Departmental Commendations as well as a Meritorious Service Medal and a "90/24" ribbon/award for proactive enforcement of OUI's from M.A.D.D.
Sergeant Mark Williams has been a full time police officer in Greenfield for the past 10 years. He is currently assigned to Relief ShiftSupervisor . Prior to his 2010 appoint to Sergeant he was a Detective and conducted investigations involving all types of crimes, including but not limited to, property crimes, sex offenses, violent crimes, and when needed he will assist with narcotics investigations. Sergeant Williams also specializes in financial crime and identity theft investigations. He is a member of multiple local task forces involved in financial crime investigations and prevention. Besides investigations, his duties also include the coverage of the Court Officer duties, as well as the application and execution of search warrants, arrest warrants, and the delivery or pickup of prisoners in extradition. Sergeant Williams is a member of the Special Response Team as a Hostage Negotiator. Sergeant Williams is also the department's CJIS Representative, and is the Access Officer for the National White Collar Crime Center's services.
Officer David Payant has been a full time police officer for the past 25 years. He is currently assigned the day shift. Officer Payant’s duties include handling any problems that the local businesses may have, responding to calls, walking downtown, serving warrants and summons, traffic enforcement, community policing activities, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, and testifying in court. During the spring and summer months, Officer Payant is a member of the bicycle unit, which is assigned to the downtown area and he deals with community problems in that area. Officer Payant is also responsible for maintaining the department vehicles.
Officer Timothy Currier has been a full time police officer for the past 18 years. He is currently assigned to the day shift. His duties include responding to calls, walking downtown, local business checks, community policing activities, traffic enforcement, serving warrants and summons, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, monitoring the prisoners in the cells, transporting the prisoners to court, and testifying in court. Officer Currier has also been a K-9 handler for the past 7 years. Officer Currier and his K-9 Jack’s duties include the search and rescue of lost and missing persons, building searches, tracking suspects, evidence recovery, narcotic searches in both buildings and motor vehicles, and community policing demonstrations. Officer Curriers trains other K9 handlers. He and Jack are both members of the Special Response Team. They also teach in the Citizen Police Academy.
Officer Patricia West has been a full time police officer for 17 years. She is currently assigned to the evening shift as a K9 officer with her partner Tyko. Tyko is a 3 year old German shepherd imported from the Czech Republic specifically for police work. K9 duties include tracking criminals, searching for lost people, evidence recovery, narcotics searches, and handler protection. Officer West was formerly assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit and she lectured on Domestic Abuse for police recruits and to other departments in the state. She worked as a Detective for five years specializing in narcotics investigations and recently was honored by the Drug Enforcement Administration for her work in dismantling a crack cocaine ring. Officer West was a member of the Special Response Team being a team leader and a certified sniper.
Officer William Trueswell has been a full time officer since 1995. He holds an Associates of Science in Criminal Justice from Greenfield Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Western New England College. Officer Trueswell is currently assigned to the Patrol division, working the 7 to 3 shift. Officer Trueswell's duties include marked cruiser patrol as well as foot patrol of the down town business district. Some of his responsibilities are the booking and processing of prisoners, serving of warrants and summons, traffic enforcement and community policing. Officer Trueswell is one of the department’s hostage negotiators and has received training in this area. Officer Trueswell has been active with the Greenfield Police Association charity fundraising activities. This has been centered around the holiday Hay Rides with Santa drives. These fundraisers have benefited the Greenfield Family Inn and the community as a whole.
Officer Marcus Paulin has been a police officer with the Greenfield Police Department for the past 16 years. He is currently assigned to the department's Patrol Division - day shift. Officer Paulin's patrol duties include responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls for service, routine patrol, traffic enforcement, service of arrest warrants, service of summons and other law enforcement paperwork, transportation of prisoners to the court, report writing, and testifying in court. Officer Paulin is a member of the department's Special Response Team and Honor Guard Unit as well as a Field Training Officer.
Officer Christopher Greene has been a full time police officer for the past 14 years. He is currently assigned the day shift. Officer Greene and K9 Logan served as a K9 unit for five years. Officer Greene's duties include handling any problems that the local businesses may have, responding to calls, walking downtown, serving warrants and summons, traffic enforcement, community policing activities, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, and testifying in court. Officer Greene is a member of the Special Response Team.
Officer Christopher Rowell has been a full time police officer for over 14 years. He is currently assigned to the day shift on patrol. He just returned to patrol after 4 years as Student Resource Officer within the Greenfield Schools. He is a longtime president of the Greenfield Police Relief Association and has spearheaded fundraising efforts for the school system, local charities and for purchases within the department in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Officer Richard Brook has been a full time police officer for the past 12 years. He is currently assigned to the 3pm- 11pm shift. His duties include responding to calls, traffic enforcement, local business checks, walking downtown, assisting the public in the police station lobby, community policing activities, serving warrants and summons, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, monitoring the prisoners in the cells, and testifying in court. Officer Brook is a member of the motorcycle unit and Special Response Team. Officer Brook recently volunteered to train to become a K9 (Bloodhound) handler. He acquired K9 Badger through donations and worked Badger with successful tracks over the last two years until Badger unexpectedly passed in early 2009. He is training in April with new Police Bloodhound Daisy He works with the schools on Hug a Tree Programs safety for lost children.
Officer Jason Kratz began his law enforcement career as a Federal Law Enforcement Ranger for the National Park Service during the summers of 96' and 97' at Boston National Historical Park and Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina. He received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice in 97'. In 98' Officer Kratz worked as a caseworker in a Department of Youth Services residential program. Officer Kratz was hired as a Reserve Officer for Greenfield during the summer of 98' and became a full-time Officer as of February 99'. Officer Kratz worked as the School Resource Officer in 2006 and is currently a second shift Patrol Officer involved in basic street patrol functions.
Officer David Rice has been a full time police officer with the Greenfield Police Department since August 1999. His current assignment is as the Department's Downtown Community Policing Officer and covering day shift patrol as needed. Officer Rice recently completed a Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice with a Post Graduate Certificate in the Prevention of Domestic Violence at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. As a capstone to his graduate studies, he completed a research study of police officers in Franklin and Hampshire Counties attitudes towards and knowledge of predominant aggressor policy in domestic violence cases where both persons make allegations of an assault and battery. Officer Rice is also a member of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Officer Rice holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Officer Rice is a founding member of the Mayor of Greenfield's Task Force for a Domestic Violence Free Greenfield. On behalf of the Task Force, Officer Rice has organized seven domestic violence trainings for area police dispatchers, part time police officers from surrounding communities, local domestic violence advocates, and police supervisors, which was provided at no cost to the participating agencies. He also served on the Domestic Violence Safety and Accountability Audit Team that studied police response to domestic violence in Franklin and Hampshire Counties. As a part of this team, he was involved in developing a model domestic violence policy and domestic violence report writing guidelines for the Northwestern District. When the Audit Team's findings were presented, he was one of two officers selected to present the team's findings at a conference attended by a majority of the Police Chiefs in Hampshire and Franklin Counties. He was also a member of a subsequent audit team that evaluated court system's response to domestic violence. Currently, he is involved in a team that is implementing the recommendations of both audit teams and developing the framework to evaluate and respond to high risk domestic violence offenders. Officer Rice is the Department's Liaison Officer to the District Attorney's Domestic Violence Intervention Project. Officer Rice is certified by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as an adjunct domestic instructor and currently is teaching domestic violence in the Municipal Police Training Committee's veteran officer in-service program at the Western Massachusetts Police Academy. Officer Rice as received several awards from various organizations. He was awarded the Eagle Scout award in 1985 and became a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow in 1991. He received several awards during his service in the United States Army and National Guard. These awards include the Expert Infantry Badge and the Army Achievement Medal: fourth award. In 2003, he was a recipient of the Peace Award from Massachusetts Rural Domestic Violence Project and Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This award is given yearly to a member of law enforcement for outstanding service in the fight against domestic violence. He also received a Department Commendation and a Commander's Commendation from the police department for his work against domestic violence. He also received a second Commander's Commendation for his involvement in an incident involving an armed barricaded suspect. Officer Rice also served on the a police study committee for the Town of Leverett which studied the operation of the town's police department, the possibility of sharing a Chief of Police with the Town of Shutesbury and assisted in the development of the a job description for Leverett Chief of Police. Officer Rice is also a member of the Greenfield Police Department's Special Response Team and is a Field Training Officer training new officers for the Greenfield Police Department.
Officer Patrick Buchanan has been a full time police officer since Feb 11, 2000. He is currently assigned the Overnight Shift. Officer Buchanan is a Patrol Officer whose duties include handling any problems that the local businesses may have, responding to calls, walking downtown, serving warrants and summons, traffic enforcement, community policing activities, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, and testifying in court. Officer Buchanan is also periodically responsible for Officer In Charge (OIC) duties in the absence of the Overnight Shift Sergeant. Officer Buchanan has spent his entire career working on the Overnight Shift.
Officer Rian Dalton Graves has been a full time (Civilian) Police Officer since 1985 and has served in three different Police Departments. Officer GRAVES was also a thirteen year veteran of the United States Army Military Police Investigations Unit working as (DST) Drug Suppression Officer under the Army CID. Officer GRAVES has worked for the Greenfield Police Department for the past eight years and is assigned as a uniform patrol Officer working in the patrol division of the GPD. Assignments include patrol activities in a marked Police cruiser as well as foot patrol assignments. His duties include the enforcement of the Mass General Laws (Criminal and Traffic) within the Greenfield Community. Some responsibilities include Warrant enforcement, general arrest and booking activities, along with direct assignments of peace keeping within the community.
Officer James Rode has been a full time police officer for the past six years. He graduated the Agawam Municipal Police Academy in April of 2002. He is currently assigned to the traffic enforcement division where his duties consist of educating and enforcing motor vehicle laws, in turn reducing aggressive driving behaviors in our community. OUI, motor vehicle crashes, and speed are just some of the areas of concern. Officer Rode responds to primary calls, serves warrants, conducts the booking and fingerprinting of prisoners, and testifies in court. Officer Rode is also a state certified First Aid/CPR instructor and he recently completed an extensive course on Accident Reconstruction.
Officer Scott West has been a police officer for over for five years, having started with our department in 2004. Scott worked with law enforcement for the last five years as a member of the Army National Guard’s Counter Drug Unit. He and his unit assisted our department in dozens of arrests and search warrants involving controlled substances. Officer West has just graduated Recruit Academy at Agawam in April 2005. He has been using his specialized knowledge to train Greenfield and Montague Special response Team members. Officer West was back on Military duty until the fall of 2008.
Officer Chad Sumner has been a full time police officer for the last 3 years. He is currently assigned to the 3pm-11pm shift as the shift’s vacation relief officer. Officer Sumner is currently enrolled in the Associates degree program at GCC for criminal justice. Officer Sumner's duties include responding to calls for service as well as proactive policing in the community, traffic enforcement, serving warrants and summonses, booking and processing of arrests, and testifying in court. Also, Officer Sumner is the treasurer for the Greenfield PD police association and is certified in the use of both the Tazer and LIDAR devices, and has received additional training in the fields of internet crimes against children, motor vehicle drug interdiction and tactical breaching and entry.
Officer Kelson Ting has been a full time police officer for the past 15 years. He is currently assigned the midnight shift. Officer Ting performs all of the duties of a patrol officer such as responding to calls, walking downtown, serving warrants and summons, traffic enforcement, community policing activities, booking and fingerprinting prisoners and testifying in court. Officer Ting has an associate's degree in law enforcement from Holyoke Community College, a bachelor's in sociology from U Mass Amherst and a master's degree in criminal justice administration from Western New England College. He speaks fluent Chinese and Spanish.
Officer Richard Logan is a full time Police Officer and graduated from the Academy in April 2008. He is a patrolman, working the 11pm-7am shift.Officer Logan’s duties include patrol, responding to calls, traffic enforcement, business checks, and community policing, booking prisoners, and testifying in court. Officer Logan is trained in hazardous-material operations, nuclear decontamination, and search and rescue.
Officer Jason Haskins has been a full time officer for the past 4 months. Officer Haskins comes to Greenfield with 8 years experience as a part time police officer. He is currently assigned to the midnight shift. Officer Haskins is a patrol officer. Officer Haskins is trained in hazardous-material operations, nuclear decontamination, and search and rescue.
